Water Tank Cleaning in Dhaka

Most households in Dhaka have never seen the inside of their water tank. Sediment, biofilm, algae, insects and debris accumulate over years, and every glass of drinking water, every pot of rice and every toothbrush passes through it. Health authorities recommend cleaning stored water reservoirs at least twice a year, and in practice most tanks we open have gone far longer.

Our water tank cleaning process

1. Isolate and drain. The supply is isolated and the tank drained down to the sludge layer.
2. Manual sludge removal. Settled silt is removed by hand — this is the step cheaper services skip, and skipping it means the sediment simply resettles.
3. Scrub every surface. Walls, floor, corners and the underside of the cover are brushed to break the biofilm, which is where bacteria actually live.
4. Wet vacuum extraction. Residual water and loosened sediment are extracted rather than flushed into the outlet.
5. High-pressure wash. All internal surfaces are pressure washed.
6. Food-grade disinfection. Chlorine at the correct dosage and contact time, then a final rinse.
7. Inspection and photographs. Cracks, leaking joints, damaged covers and missing vent screens are reported with before-and-after photographs.

What actually builds up inside a tank

Three things. Sediment settles as a fine silt layer that thickens every month. Biofilm forms a slick layer on the walls where bacteria multiply. And in overhead tanks where any light penetrates, algae grows and gives the water a distinct taste and smell. Tanks with damaged or missing covers also collect insects, lizards, leaves and dust.

Signs your tank needs cleaning now

Cloudy water after supply resumes, a musty or earthy smell, visible particles in a glass left to stand, repeated stomach complaints in the household, blocked tap aerators or shower heads, or simply not remembering the last cleaning. Any one of those means the tank should be opened and inspected.

Why it matters beyond health

Sediment shortens pump life, blocks aerators and filters, stains sanitary ware and clogs washing machine inlet screens. Tank cleaning is one of the few maintenance jobs that pays for itself in equipment life alone, before you even count the health benefit.

How often should a water tank be cleaned?

Twice a year for a typical household — once before and once after the monsoon. Quarterly for buildings with heavy occupancy, older reservoirs, or a history of supply disruption. Restaurants, clinics and schools should treat it as a scheduled compliance item, not an occasional chore.
